Darrington Strong Board Meeting Minutes
Monday, August 21, 2023
The meeting was held at Rick’s home and Roselie called the meeting to order.
Attendees: Carson Tavenner, Marla Skaglund, Rick Knight, Roselie Rasmussen, Savannah Richter, Dee Bernache (guest)
Approval of the Monthly Treasurer’s Report:
Carson presented the treasurer’s report showing a total balance of $32,935.65. Roselie moved to “approve the treasurer’s report as submitted”; Savannah seconded and the motion carried.
Approval of Last Meeting’s Minutes:
Carson moved to “approve the minutes of the July 17, 2023 Darrington Strong Board meeting; Rick seconded and the motion carried.
Website Updates:
Savannah is working on discoverdarrington.com and color changes were discussed. Text needs to be added to the North Mtn Lookout page on the darringtonstrong.org site.
Unfinished Business:
Summer Park Fair 2023: Savannah reported good reviews from all attendees & many want to help with next year’s fair. Carson also presented a brief recap of the day’s events.
Mountain Life Festival: Carson reported on the first meeting for the festival held at Moe’s and announced the next meeting to be held at Hampton Lumber’s conference room September 21, 2023 @ 6:00 PM. He stressed the importance of team-building and finding a leader. The potential of organizing as a Darrington Strong committee was also discussed.
New Business:
“Festival of the Stars”: Roselie introduced a lengthy discussion on the effects of light pollution in the valley and the potential to include this in the “master plan” currently being formulated for the area. Carson suggested that we do not take action at this time but thinks our organization can be an advocate for the idea as the plan develops.
Storage Unit Rental: Savannah introduced a light discussion on the need for a storage area for the organization’s supplies and tools. Rick volunteered his basement as a viable storage area as it is currently being used for such purpose. The need for new sandwich board signs were also discussed.
Darrington Strong Updates:
Future Community Meetings: Savannah will contact Reid Shockie at the Shockie Group to see if he can be the guest speaker at the October 18 community meeting.
Library “Book Brigade”: Carson has no final word from Ashley at this time, so he will contact her for an update.
