Savannah moved to “approve the minutes of the June 19, 2023 Darrington Strong Board meeting; Dawn seconded and the motion carried.
Website Updates:
Discover Darrington: Martha will school Savannah on website analytics.
Unfinished Business:
Summer Park Fair 2023: Marla reported that John Farmer is advising her on the stage set up & sound system. Carson suggested that Forrest Clark & the historical society could run the dunk tank for the day. Savannah reported that there are currently 41 vendors and 4 food providers.
New Business:
New Member Recruitment: Roselie introduced a lengthy discussion about recruiting new members. Among the items discussed were targeted Facebook ads, welcome baskets, contacting new residents moving to the area by resourcing county & city records and then sending the new owners a welcome packet of information. Dawn suggested providing the packets to realtors as well. This topic will be discussed further at future meetings under “unfinished business”.
Calendar of Events: Light discussion about upcoming events during the remaining calendar year. Highway cleanup and a volunteer appreciation event were discussed.
Summer Park Fair 2024: Discussion as to where & when; perhaps moving the date to July 4th weekend. Marla said Gordy will help out with the festivities in the park.
FFPU: Martha submitted her letter of resignation and introduced a discussion on who might be the new FFPU coordinator and/or whether FFPU will continue as an organization. For now, Roselie will function as a proxy to make FFPU announcements at future DS general meetings. The contract with the USFS will need to be signed by the new coordinator. Martha handed over documents to Marla. Rick will be storing all FFPU tools & equipment & highway cleanup supplies and Roselie will retain the road maintenance manuals.
Next Town Beautification Project: It was suggested that we show this as “seasonal opportunities” on the website.
Lookout Model at Moe’s: Rick is currently working on a 1/4 scale “model” of the NM Lookout & he & Carson have been in touch with the owners of Moe’s to coordinate the installation and potential challenges of such a project. One major question is whether or not the city will allow it and/or whether or not a building permit is required.
July 19 Community Meeting: It was suggested that the tables should be in a “U” shape, facing the stage and board members distribute themselves among the tables to better mingle with the guests. Supplying water & treats were discussed & Savannah will make brownies. Marla will ask Gordy to open at 6:30 to start cooling the building as it will be very hot.
Darrington Strong Updates:
DS Board Meetings: Rick suggested moving the meetings to the senior center & Carson agreed. Roselie suggested having the meetings in one of our homes & Rick offered his up for the cause. Though no vote was taken, there seemed to be a unanimous response to have the meetings at Rick’s.
Next Meeting: August 21, 2023
