Darrington Strong Board Meeting Minutes
Monday, February 20, 2023
The meeting was held at Darrington Coffee Co. and Marla Skaglund opened the meeting.
Review and Approval of the Treasurer’s Report:
Carson submitted the treasurer’s report showing a balance of $26,130.57 for all accounts. Rick moved to “approve the treasurer’s report as submitted”; Roselie seconded and the motion carried.
Approval of Last Meeting’s Minutes:
Carson moved to “approve the minutes (with appropriate edits)”of the January 16, 2023 Darrington Strong Board meeting; Dawn seconded and the motion carried.
Website Updates: Light discussion about the status of the “Discover Darrington” site and its continuation as Martha will be moving out of the area this coming spring.
DS Website: Light discussion about website hosting & banking issues with regard to payment.
Unfinished Business:
Events Coordinator Position: Carson moved to “approve Savannah Richter as Chair of the Events Committee”; Rick seconded and the motion carried.
New Business:
Darrington Street Fair/Darrington Day Celebration: Savannah reported that the date will be July 22 and outlined plans to include a car show and activities in Old School Park, coinciding with the Bluegrass Festival and the archery tournament. Savannah will attend the next meeting of the Darrington Town Council to further discuss ideas and outline the plans.
Cascade Homesteading Cooperative Committee (CHC): Savannah initiated a lengthy discusion about the fledgling organization, the potential to become a Committee of Darrington Strong and presented a letter of interest from Kerry Higgins, the group’s organizer. The consensus was that there needs to be more discussion about the organization’s goals and whether or not it fits with the goals of Darrington Strong.
Shared Stewership Pilot Project: Carson reported that he spoke to potential speakers for the April 19 meeting, which will need to be held at the Darrington Fire Hall as the library is closed during remodeling.
Wood Innovation Center: Dawn reported that she contacted Forterra to arrange a speaker at one of our general meetings but so far has received no response from them.
Darrington Strong Updates:
Light discussion about upcoming general meeting dates (April 19, July 19 & Oct 25), times and locations.
